Kakadu hats - or Mates as we often call them - come in all shapes and sizes so you're sure to find a Mate that suits you.

But first things first, lets determine your correct size. Remember you want comfortably firm

Kakadu hats - how to measure your head

Wrap a tape measure or a piece of string (if you use string, you'll need a ruler as well) around your head so that it is above your eyebrows and about 1cm / half and inch above your ears. No need to pull too tight - remember you want your hat to be comfy!
Follow the size guide below to help determine your size.
There are some slight variations in size depending on the fabric used for the hat - thicker materials mean the hat fit will be a bit tighter and thin fabrics a bit touch looser

Torquay Breeze Soaka Hat

Heat builds early on the coast. Sand already warm underfoot. The Torquay Breeze Soaka Hat comes into its own when the day stretches long and shade matters more than speed. It’s worn moving between the shoreline and the headland, watching sets roll through at Wategos beach, salt drying on skin while the afternoon pushes on.

This is summer gear built for exposure, not ornament. Wide brim cutting glare. Ventilated crown letting heat escape while you keep moving. It holds steady through beach walks, roadside pull-ins, and slow climbs back off the rocks after a swim. Later, it rests on a weathered table with a cold Great Northern brew sweating beside it, waiting for the sun to drop.

Material & Care

Poly-Suede

Soaka hats are made from specially made poly-suede which is a durable synthetic fiber known for its resilience and ease of care. It has been constructed to be highly durable, quick-drying, and resistant to shrinking and stretching, making it ideal for hats

Care

Machine washable in cold/warm water with a mild detergent for washing; do not tumble dry.
Hang dry or lay flat in the shade. If necessary, use a hairdryer to remove creases caused by squashing or incorrect storage.
Avoid leaving your hat in a hot car.
A good rule of thumb is - if it's too hot to touch, then it's too hot for your hat!

Got the two hats

After the initial order, getting only one of the original order of two, Kakadu made good on sending the second. Well done on making it right. Not to worry, will be looking to order more in the future.

Decent warm weather hat

This is a decent warm weather hat that seems well made. The mesh keeps your head very cool, the brim is a good size and provides decent shade, and it looks good. There's a small strip of fabric in the forehead area so you don't have any problems with burning through the mesh (provided you have hair). My head measures 59.5 cm around and the size large fits well after a couple weeks breaking in period.

My main complaint about the hat is that although there's a wire in it, the brim is a little floppy. If there's much wind at all it tends to flip up and down in front of your forehead. It would be nice if there was a sweatband in the hat, although it keeps your head cool enough that this is not a huge problem in most weather. Shipping for the hat was very quick from Australia to Canada. The brim of the hat arrived a little bent out of shape, but soaking it and then wearing it until it dried seemed to fix the minor issue.
