Description

Echuca Leather Hat

It goes on before the first track marker disappears on the Canning Stock Route, leather already warm from the sun. Dust lifts and settles again. The Echuca sits low and steady, brim cutting glare while the vehicle crawls forward in low range. There is no rush out here. Just distance, heat, and the slow work of staying comfortable long enough to keep moving.

By midday the road gives way to open country near the Bungle Bungles, rock faces throwing heat back at you while the hat does its quiet work. Ventilation lets air move. Sweat dries instead of pooling. Later, camp gets set without talking much. Damper torn apart by hand, flour still on your fingers, the hat hung from a mirror while boots come off. When the light finally drops, a Barossa Shiraz gets poured into whatever cup is closest. The leather carries the marks of the day. It looks better for it.

Solid, well-bulit leather hat

Size M fits perfectly with my 57cm head. This hat is well constructed with solid, unscratched & smooth cattle leather, looking clean yet feeling like heavy duty. Love the signature round hatband instead of a braided band, making this hat very Kakadu!

All credit to the Description writer for the Echuca hat for including a cattle dog, a swagman's backpack and a dusty adventure - and that's just in the first paragraph.
Me, I'm a bit leaner with words. It's a pretty decent hat. I've got a small head (for low wind resistance) and the tape measure said 56cm/22inches circumnavigating.... So I bought M for medium and it's firm as a jockstrap. Maybe I needed an M-and-a-bit.... But it doesn't blow off in a top-down '98 Barina Cabrio at 100 kays so I'm travelling in style. The cow had a thin hide but that makes a light hat and I dosed it with dubbin and I'm old so it should do me 'til I die and by then it'll have the sort of well worn character that looks great in an open casket. Well done Kakadu. Good hat, good price, and the four paragraphs of purple prose come for nothing. Bargain.
