Chinstrap in All Colours

The boat noses out along the New Zealand coast as the wind starts to rise, the kind that sneaks up while you are already committed. Lines are in, deck is wet, hands are busy. There is no spare second to grab a hat once it lifts. The chinstrap is already doing its job, sitting firm under the chin, keeping everything where it should be while the water chops sideways.

A gust hits harder than the last. You lean into it, steady on your feet, eyes locked on the rod tip. The hat stays put. No scrambling. No swearing. Just focus and forward motion. That small piece of leather earns its place here, quietly, without ceremony.

Later, back at the dock, the boat tied off and the gear stowed, someone cracks a cold Steinlager. Windburned faces, tired hands, salt still on your skin. The chinstrap hangs loose now, hat resting easy, another thing that did not let you down when it mattered.

  • A good rule of thumb is - if it's too hot to touch, then it's too hot for your hat!

Tiny extra cost for secure covers

Design is quite unusual that it straps the back of head, making absolutely certain the hat won't be blown off front or back! Feels like the hat is completely secured. Require a bit of getting used to though when taking off the hat, because, as I wear glasses, the frames of my glasses often get caught by the back string and gets a bit clumsy. Else you won't lose a hat by strongest gust of winds by small extra cost for this accessory. Kakadu embossed on the back rest leather is very charming and makes the hats look truly Kakadu IMO!
